Free preparation of both state and federal income tax returns will be available to qualifying individuals beginning in February of each year. Participants in RSVP have successfully completed training and certification by both Internal Revenue Service and State Comptroller Office personnel and will be available to offer assistance to area individuals who meet the following guidelines:
- Eligibility for assistance will be determinied on a case by case basis and be dependent upon counselor's training and area of expertise.
- No returns will be prepared that involve income from a farm, a business owned by the client or self employment.
- No returns for states other than Maryland will be prepared.
- No depreciation schedules will be established for rental properties.
All counseling sessions are scheduled by appointment only and are held at Commission on Aging offices at 140 W. Franklin Street, 4th floor in Hagerstown, and at the Senior Center at Girls Inc. at 626 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown. Volunteers are also available to go into the homes of individuals unable to travel. Staff and counselors also offer telephone assistance and year-round tax advice to established clients and the general public.
RSVP is an official IRS Electronic Filing Site and all returns are filed electronically. There is no charge for this service, but donations are gratefully accepted.
