In cooperation with the City of Hagerstown,  through the Community Development Block Grant Program,  the Commission on Aging's Chore Service assists elderly homeowners with necessary maintenance and repairs.  This assistance enables clients to continue living in their own homes since many elderly homeowners are financially or physically unable to assume the responsibility of repairs or maintenance.

In the 2008-09 service year, funding is available to assist approximately 10 homeowners.  A household may receive home repair assistance through this program if:

  • The home is owner-occupied and located within the city limits.
  • The entire household's income meets CDBG income guidelines
  • At least one of the homeowners is age 60 or older.
